Profa. Dra. Glete de Alcantara

Born on June 24, 1910, in São Sebastiao do Paraiso-MG, Prof. Dr. Glete de Alcântara, through the Rockefeller Foundation, graduated as a nurse at the University of Toronto, Canada. She initially taught at the University of São Paulo's Ribeirao Preto College of Nursing, Brazil, received her BS degree in Social Sciences at the same university, and, with a grant from the Kellogg Foundation in 1951, obtained a Master of Arts degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, New York. In 1952 she was chosen to create and manage the University of São Paulo at Ribeirão Preto College of Nursing, where she remained for almost two decades as its dean. Her outstanding performance as president of the Brazilian Nursing Association only ended with her death in 1974. As a leadership model and dedication for the Nursing class, Glete de Alcântara has left a great legacy of struggle for Nursing.

Bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of São Paulo at Ribeirão Preto College of Nursing (EERP-USP), Bachelor's degree in History from the Barão de Mauá University Center with a Master's and Doctorate in Nursing from EERP-USP. Has over 19 years of involvement in studies in Nursing History.

She is currently a PhD Professor 2 at EERP-USP, a World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Nursing Research Development, where she has also worked as a professor of Nursing History since 2009. She has been a member of the board of ABRADHENF since its creation (2010-2023), with the following highlights: First Vice-President of the Brazilian Academy of Nursing History ABRADHENF (2014-2020), President of the Brazilian Academy of Nursing History ABRADHENF (2020-2023), Leader of the Research Group Laboratory of Studies in Nursing History - (LAESHE), registered in the CNPq Research Groups Directory. Currently a visiting professor and Fapesp postdoctoral fellow at the University of Virginia School of Nursing USA (2024-2025)
