In this live stream, we will discuss Josicélia’s contributions to nursing in the fields of higher education and graduate studies, her life story, and the professional recognition that led to her receiving the CAPES Anísio Teixeira Award in 2026.
Professor Josicélia Dumêt Fernandes was born in Juazeiro, Bahia, and earned her nursing degree from UFBA in 1965. She began her career in psychiatric care and became a faculty member at UFBA in 1971. After obtaining her master's degree in 1984 and her doctorate in 1990, she served as Director of the School of Nursing from 1984 to 1997 and became a Full Professor in 2000. A CNPq researcher, she distinguished herself in the areas of mental health, education, graduate studies, and professional training, while also playing an active role in ABEn and CAPES. She retired in 2014 and was named Professor Emeritus in 2017. In 2026, she was honored with the CAPES Anísio Teixeira Award in the Higher Education category, becoming the first Brazilian nurse to receive this distinction.
