Over the 14th, 15th and 16th of December, the Escola Superior de Guerra (ESG) is hosting the II International Congress on the History of Nursing Education and the VI Colloquium of the Brazilian Academy of Nursing History. Organized by the Brazilian Academy of Nursing History (ABRADHENF), the event aims to bring together students and researchers in the field of nursing history and related areas, from different countries, to promote reflection on teaching and disseminate the production of knowledge in the area. Representing the commander of the ESG, Vice Admiral Marcelo Menezes Cardoso, the deputy commander of the School, Brigadier General Himario Brandão Trinas, greeted the participants of the event and delivered opening words, highlighting the historical importance of the place where the Higher School of War is located and the fundamental role that the institute of higher studies plays for the country. “It is a great joy for ESG to be able to welcome you ladies and gentlemen to this important event.Next year, our School completes 75 years of existence, fulfilling a function that I believe is fundamental for the country, which is to bring together civilians and military personnel from the three Forces, working together to think about Brazil”, he highlighted. Also on the opening table for the ceremony were Professors Luciana Luchesi and Margarida Bernardes, president and secretary of ABRADHENF, respectively, and Carmen Lúcia Monteiro, professor at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro. Over the three days of the event, registered participants will have the opportunity to attend panels and round tables by renowned national and international speakers on topics such as: perspectives on biographies in the History of Nursing; challenges for research and teaching and possibilities for international integration; discussion of research projects, among others. Saturday morning (16), the last day of the event, will be dedicated to the awarding of prizes and the launch of the Rio de Janeiro Charter, which consists of a public declaration about the importance of teaching the history of nursing.
